POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an arson attack in St Albans in which two cars were torched.

Firefighters were called to Windmill Avenue just before midnight on Sunday where they found that a grey Subaru Impreza had been set alight. The flames had already reached a blue BMW parked next to it.

The crew from St Albans fire station put out the fire and called the police who are now appealing for witnesses to the incident.

A spokesperson for Herts Police said those responsible set the car on fire between 11.30pm and 11.45pm and then made off in an unknown direction.

Investigating officer, Pc Carol Crawley, said: "This was an extremely dangerous and irresponsible act, which will be both very inconvenient and costly to the owners."

She asked anyone with information to call the police on 0845 33 00 222 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
