A MAN was knocked unconscious and needed hospital treatment after a fight broke out on the dance floor of a St Albans nightclub in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police are appealing for witnesses and information following the assault at Batchwood Hall which happened at around 1.30am.

A fracas erupted between a group of three to four men which led to one of them, a 25 year old from Hemel Hempstead, being knocked to the floor and assaulted.

He lost consciousness and was taken to hospital for treatment before being released later.

Investigating officer, Pc Neil Sutton, said: "This was a distressing incident for the victim to have gone through and we are treating it very seriously."

He appealed for anyone who was on the dance floor at the time to contact him on the non-emergency number 0845 33 00 222 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
