POLICE are appealing for help in catching the people responsible for three burglaries in Radlett.

On two occasions the thieves were unsuccessful, but during one of the burglaries they stole jewellery and a camera from a property in The Ridgeway.

That incident happened between 11am on July 19 and 12.45am on July 24 and access was gained by forcing a locked window open.

Then, at around 6pm on July 19, thieves tried to jemmy open the front door of a property in Craigweil Avenue but were disturbed by the occupants.

Police are looking for a white man with dark brown hair who was wearing a stripped top and a second man with olive skin who was wearing a black T-shirt and black trousers.

In another attempted burglary between 7.30pm on July 21 and 4.30pm on July 22, a screwdriver was used to cause £1,400 worth of damage to patio doors as offenders tried to gain access to a property in Watling Street.

Sian Lockley, the chief inspector for Hertsmere, said: "These latest burglaries in Radlett are causing us concern and we are hoping members of the public may be able to assist with any descriptions of the possible offenders or details of any vehicles they may be using.

"I'm not asking people to become curtain twitchers but to keep an eye on their neighbours, especially when they are away on holiday and especially the elderly and vulnerable members of our communities. "

Letters are being personally delivered by police officers and PCSOs from the safer neighbourhood teams to Hertsmere residents who leave their windows and doors insecure as part of a proactive police operation.

Sian added: "Burglars are often opportunistic, looking out for an easy insecure building rather than the places where they would have to use tools to break in. If your home, garage, shed or outbuilding is properly secure, the risk of it being burgled is greatly reduced."
