Police appeal following St Albans assault

A MAN was punched in the face after refusing to show his belongings to a gang as he walked through St Albans recently.

The victim was walking with a friend between Ye Olde Fighting Cocks Inn in Abbey Mill Lane and Sumpter Yard on Thursday, February 10, between 8pm and 8.15pm, when four Asian men and two woman approached them and asked to see their watches and phones.

As the gang walked away unsuccessful one of them punched the victim in the face, leaving him with slight injuries. The group then ran off towards Verulamium Park.

Police are appealing for information and witnesses about the assault and Pc Barry Eldridge, investigating, said: “I would like to speak with anyone who saw the incident or has been approached by a similar group asking to see their watches or phones.”
