A CYCLIST sustained injuries including a punctured lung when he came off his bike in a collision with a car which failed to stop.

The 54-year-old man was riding away from St Albans along the Hemel Hempstead Road just before 9pm last Wednesday (Nov 17) when he was involved in the accident with a black vehicle, the driver of which police are now trying to trace.

The cyclist, who was wearing reflective clothing and had lights, fell off his bike and landed on the handlebar, cracking ribs and puncturing a lung. He was taken to Watford General Hospital where he is still receiving treatment.

Pc Mark Essam at St Albans police station said: “The only description we have of the car is that it was a large black vehicle. I would urge the owner of the vehicle involved to contact me, as well as any witnesses who may have seen the collision. It may be that you did not realise you had been involved in the collision or you may have been unable to stop at the scene.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police via the non-emergency number 0845 33 00 222.
