AN alleged incident of racial abuse, in a St Albans street, has prompted a police appeal for information.
The incident is said to have taken place on Cell Barnes Lane, at around 4pm, on Saturday September 3.
A couple were walking along the pavement when a driver of a white van, which had just overtaken a grey sports car, mounted the kerb and knocked into the woman. He is then said to have made a racial comment towards her before leaving the scene.
The woman suffered minor injuries.
The man is then alleged to have come back in the grey sports car, with a woman driving and shouted racist abuse at the woman and the man she was with.
PC Sarah Phillips, investigating, said: “We take allegations of this kind very seriously and I would like to appeal to anyone who saw the incident take place, or who may have information, to contact me.
“In particular, there was a woman who may have seen the latter part of the alleged incident and I would like to encourage her to contact me to help the investigation.”
Anyone with information should contact PC Phillips via the non-emergency number 101, citing crime reference number F1/11/3413. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
* A man in his 20s has been arrested and is on police bail until October.
