Police are appealing for witnesses after two men allegedly approached members of the public in St Albans and tried to sell them a new Samsung Galaxy S5 which was actually a fake.

An 18-year-old and a 19-year-old, both from Edmonton, have been arrested in connection with the incident, which happened in St Peter’s Street between 10.45am and 11.45am on Thursday, September 18.

Both men are currently on police bail until November 22 while investigations continue.

PC Rebecca Spittle is investigating and said: “Firstly, I would appeal to anyone who believes they may have been a victim of this alleged fraud to contact me with information.

“I would also like to ask members of the public to be aware of the scam and not to buy any phones in these circumstances and report any suspicious activity to police.”
