A YOUNG girl was assaulted by a man at the weekend and police are appealing for information about the incident.
The 12-year-old from St Albans was attacked in Sutton Road, in the Fleetville area of the city, at around 6.15pm on Sunday.
Police believe it is linked to similar incident that also occurred in Sutton Road on the previous Sunday, June 29, when the victim was approached by a man acting suspiciously. After an exchange of words, the offender ran off.
The suspect was white, clean-shaven and with short dark-brown hair, of slim build, around 5ft 5in tall and aged between 20 to 25 years. He is thought to have been wearing a blue hooded top with the hood up and blue tracksuit bottoms.
WPc Rebecca Primrose from the Local Crime Unit at St Albans police station is investigating and said: "We are treating this rare incident extremely seriously and are following several lines of inquiry. However we still need the public's help to trace the offender. If you were in the area at the time and saw the incidents or recognise the description of the suspect or know anything about either incident, then please come forward."
She added: "The victim did the right thing in telling her parents and contacting police straight away. We would always encourage people who are victims of crime to come forward to police."
Anyone with information is asked to contact WPc Primrose on 0845 33 00 222 or to alternatively call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
