ST Albans’ most romantic restaurant has been identified in a new survey which revealed more Valentine’s night diners got engaged there last year than anywhere else in the city.

Freddies, of Adelaide Street, was highlighted following research by by personal dating consultancy Top Match.

Top Match Herts director Nicky Stephens said: “There is definitely something in the air at Freddies. Maybe it is the food or the atmosphere but whatever the reason it is clearly the place to go to pop the big question.”

Freddie Bahman, owner of Freddies, added: “We try and make our restaurant a special place for everyone on every night, but we were certainly getting it very right on Valentine’s night last year. Our customers enjoy being here and we enjoy helping them celebrate, whatever the event.”

Other local venues which featured well in the survey were St Michael’s Manor, Cibo de Vino and Kashu. Darcy’s, which has had the entire restaurant booked out by a single diner on previous occasions, had the most unfortunate result during 2010’s Valentine’s night with no proposals and two “storming outs” according to owner Ruth Hurren.
