Plea from late St Albans motorcyclist’s family for funeral funds

Family and friends of a motorcyclist who died last week are trying to raise money for his funeral.

Father-of-eight Brett Cansdale, 33, from London Colney, died last Monday, July 13, after being involved in a road traffic accident near Nuffield Health and Wellbeing Centre in Highfield Park Drive, St Albans.

Family friend Landy Kelly has set up a JustGiving page for Brett, who had four children and four stepchildren.

Landy said: “This story touched my heart, when my son Steve called me and told me what had happened, he was in bits. I promised him we would help do something for Brett’s farewell.

“So we set up the JustGiving page hoping for support. He was a lovely person and a good friend to Steve.”

The page has a fundraising target of £1000 to cover the funeral costs.

Landy added: “I just think, imagine if that was my son? How I would feel if he wasn’t given a proper send off.

“I wouldn’t want my children to go with a bare coffin and nobody there.”

Brett’s partner Lisa, who will now be caring for the couple’s five children, one of whom is under one, has paid tribute to her late partner.

She said: “Brett was a loving father of eight, four his own and four he most definitely took under his wing as his own.

“He was a family man, leaving us all devastated. As for [a] partner, he was my hero, my knight in shining armour, my family, my world.

“He was a loving son to his mum, dad, brother and sister. He loved life, his bike, [and] he will be missed so so much by his loving friends and us, his family.”

Any extra money raised will be used to organise something for the children Brett left behind.

Lisa added: “I hope we get enough to treat these children to something to make them smile.”

Brett was driving a black Suzuki motorcycle when he collided with a black Ford Focus at around 9.10am.

The driver of the car was not injured.
