A commemorative plaque was unveiled at a St Albans playing field to thank supporters who raised money to refurbish the children’s playground.

The Friends of Victoria Playing Fields (FVPF) unveiled the plaque on Saturday in a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by St Albans mayor Cllr Rosemary Farmer, who made a short speech praising the local community.

A crowdfunding project, as well as St Albans district council, raised more than £78,000 to renovate the playground thanks to local businesses and residents.

The project has gone on to inspire other projects such as Verulamium at Play, which recently secured funding to revamp the playground at Verulamium Park.

Project manager and FVPF volunteer Tim Leicester said: “It was a great team effort from the community, local businesses, the parks department and councilors working together to a common goal.”
