FOOTBALL is the language of love as far as soccer-mad Peter Clark is concerned.

Peter, aged 48, of Langley Crescent, St Albans, is currently in Austria covering EURO 2008 as the UEFA language translation and voice-over partner.

His firm Clark Football Languages Limited featured prominently in the news when one of his interpreters translated for Fabio Capelli at his inaugural press conference. And Peter himself has been giving Fabio lessons in English for three hours a day, three days a week.

He said: "I think Fabio is the best manager in the business. We have a very special rapport."

But as far as German-born Peter is concerned, there is only one team he tips to win Euro 2008.

He said: "Germany are playing very well and if I was a betting man I would back them to win."

The finest footballer out there at the moment according to Peter is Michael Ballack, who helped Germany beat Phil Scolari's Portugal side last Thursday.

Peter said: "It's quite amusing that Scolari, who is taking over as Chelsea manager, will be Ballack's new boss but I am sure he won't hold that winning goal against him."

He is hopeful that one of his next jobs might be teaching English to the now ex-manager of Portugal when he joins Chelsea.

Peter and his team receive all the player/manager interviews, translate them then voice-over the interviews mainly into English but into other languages as well.

Using state-of-the-art technology the turnaround time, which used to be 24 hours, now only takes a matter of minutes.

He was recently delighted to meet UEFA chief Michel Platini - "the next best thing to God", according to Peter -- when he called into his office at the International Broadcast centre in Vienna.

Peter has a team of 10 interpreters working with him speaking between them 14 languages. He has some 400 interpreters worldwide on his books.

Peter's wife Mariella, a co-director in the business, is holding the fort at home with their 10-year old daughter Emma.

When he's at home Peter supports Watford FC, although he doesn't get to many games.
