SHOPPERS were lining up outside St Albans’ new budget retailer since the early hours of this morning.

The new 99p Stores on St Peters Street enticed customers along to their opening day by offering free gifts to those that were first in the queue and a charity trolley dash was also held in aid of the Parent Teacher Association of Maple Primary School.

According to Graham Barnes, spokesperson for 99p Stores, people were lining up since 6.30am and around 400 people were in the queue when the doors opened at 10am. He said: “We have twice the range and a penny change for household essentials.”
