A PENSIONER was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving this morning after causing mayhem at a petrol station.
The trouble started when the 73-year old woman who was driving a beige Renault Clio hit a pillar directly in front of a petrol pump at Sainsbury's in Everard Close, St Albans, at 10am.
An eye-witness said: "It was lucky she didn't hit the petrol pump or there might have been an explosion."
But the forecourt had to be closed off to traffic for several hours until a structural engineer could check the site was safe to use.
A police spokesperson said: "The store will remain open but the forecourt will have to be shut to traffic until it has been checked."
The woman was breathalysed and arrested at the scene then taken to hospital by ambulance to be checked over in case of injury.
Her car was badly damaged after the collision.
