POLICE are appealing for witnesses and information following the theft of a pedal cycle in Harpenden on Friday (November 25).

The alleged incident happened between 12.30pm and 1pm on Wheathampstead Road.

A man in his 60s was delivering leaflets along the road and had left his bike near the junction with Aldwick Cresent for a few minutes, according to police.

During this time a man and a young girl are said to have taken the bike and headed to the Southdown area of the village.

It is believed they went through the alleyway near Dark Lane, as leaflets were found discarded there.

The tricycle is described as being reddish purple in colour, with a large white basket on the back. The rear right wheel is buckled and the handle bars are a little rusted.

The man is described as of mixed race and in his 20s. The girl is described as white and aged between 10 and 13.

PC Barry Eldridge, investigating, said: “I would like to appeal to anyone who might have seen the crime take place or has any information on it to come forward.

“You may have seen two people making off with a bike or dropping the leaflets, or even know the offenders. Perhaps you have even seen this bike somewhere.

“If you can help us at all, please contact me.”

Those with information are asked to call PC Eldridge via non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
