AN ELDERLY man confronted a burglar in his Park Street home last night.
The break-in occurred at around 8.45pm while the 72-year-old man and his companion in her nineties were watching television.
He heard a noise and went to investigate, finding a man believed to be in his twenties, carrying out a search in his study.
The thief ignored the householder and carried on searching before leaving the property empty-handed through the window he had forced open to gain access.
Police remained outside the property overnight because the occupiers believed that there was another man outside.
Police are searching for a white man, between 5ft 10ins and 5ft 11ins tall, of medium build and wearing a dark-coloured hooded top.
Anyone with information is asked to ring the non-emergency number on 0845 3300222.
