The Oxfam bookshop in St Albans will be serving tea and cake to customers to celebrate the charity’s 75 year anniversary.
Customers can pop into the bookshop in Catherine Street between 9.30am and 4.30pm on Thursday, October 5 for tea, coffee and cake. The event aims to thank both regular customers and volunteers, as well as attracting new visitors.
Oxfam began as a pop-up gift shop in wartime Oxford, with the first permanent shop set up in the city in 1947. Since then, the charity has launched a fair trade shop, an online shop and its own newspaper. According to the charity, they are in a better position than ever to end extreme poverty.
Hilary Blake, manager of the St Albans bookshop, said: “Oxfam’s work over the past 75 years has done so much to help alleviate poverty around the world. Here at Oxfam Books and Music we’re really pleased to be able to help support and further that work.”
