An Olympic Gold Medal winner has set up a hockey academy in Redbourn to encourage children to get active.
Alex Danson, who was part of Team GB’s hockey team at Rio 2016, selected Redbourn Leisure Centre as one of the first sites in the country to host the Alex Danson Hockey Academy. She teamed up with Everyone Active, which runs the centre, after they both recognised the lack of hockey provision for primary school-age children.
Coaches will use the game ‘Quicksticks’ to introduce children to hockey using a lighter and safer ball. The sessions are designed to suit all abilities, but will give children with a flair for the sport a chance to progress.
The camp will run on Wednesday August 23 from 10pm to 3pm, and is open to children age nine to 11.
