Student animators from Oaklands College have been tasked with producing a pair of videos for Tommy & Lottie, a luxury baby clothing firm from St Albans.

Katie Carr, who founded the company, approached the college to see if students were interested in producing two short animations to demonstrate the manufacturing process and highlight the company’s ethical commitments.

Philip Heath, who runs the multimedia design, animation and graphic design course at Oaklands, loved the idea and selected first-year graphic design students Jonathan Burke and Hannah Martin, both 17, to produce the films.

Philip said: “Both students really enjoyed working with Katie on the project and were fully aware of the great opportunity this would give them.

“I tried to give them as much exposure to the designer/client experience as possible so they were able to gain a real insight about working on a real client brief.”

The videos were narrated by Katie’s children, Tommy, 11, and Lottie, 8, who were the inspiration behind the brand.

Katie said: “I was so impressed with the talent and quality of the animations, plus everyone involved was so easy to work with.”

Katie, Tommy and Lottie were then invited to the end-of-year art, fashion and design show at Oaklands College where the animations were screened.

Katie said: “It was such an inspiration for Tommy and Lottie to see.”
