New recycling bins are being trialed around St Albans’ Verulamium Park.

St Albans district council (SADC) has replaced four normal bins with the new model, which have separate compartments for plastics and tins alongside general rubbish.

They are stationed between the River Ver and Verulamium Lake, and will be monitored over the next three months to check patrons are using the recycling sections correctly.

If the trial is successful, another 11 will be installed early next year, all 52 standard bins will be replaced over time, and SADC will look at a similar scheme in Clarence Park and Rothamsted Park in Harpenden.

Environmental portfolio holder for SADC, Cllr Daniel Chichester-Miles, said: “These new recycling bins mean that park users will be able to recycle their plastic bottles and food trays, as well as cans.”
