Harpenden town council has declared Cllr Rosemary Farmer as its new Mayor.

Cllr Farmer, who previously served as mayor in 2009-2010 and 2013-2014, was elected by the council on Monday, May 8.

Cllr Farmer said: “I am delighted and very honoured. I think Harpenden is a wonderful town.”

Asked why she had returned for a third term as mayor, she said: “I was asked by my fellow councillors, as I have a lot of experience.”

Originally from the Chilterns, Cllr Farmer worked in the City of London.

She moved to Harpenden in 1999, before deciding to take a more active role in the council.

She has served on the council since 2007, and has served on St Albans district council since 2012.

She will serve as mayor for a year.

In addition to her council work, Cllr Farmer is a director of Harpenden Connect, the organisation responsible for the Harpenden Hopper.

Harpenden Connect is one of the charities she has chosen to support as mayor this year. The other is Rennie Grove Hospice.

Cllr David Heritage was elected deputy mayor.
