NEW High Sheriff of Herts Janie Wentworth-Stanley not only went down a storm with ladies who lunch but she also joined in a presentation of 7,000 to Grove House.

Janie was invited to speak at the Green Ribbon Luncheon Club which was set up by Jean Hutton in 1994 and has since raised 62,000 for the St Albans day hospice.

And she stayed as Jean handed over a cheque for 5,000 from the club and an additional 2,000 which came about because her company Metalwood Fencing is on the council of the fencing industry and the firm nominated Grove House to receive 2,000 from a charitable golf day.

The money was handed over to David Dunbar, chairman of the trustees of Grove House.

The Green Ribbon Club meets at the Noke Hotel in Chiswell Green each month and Jean aims to attract at least two high-profile speakers each year.

She had been hoping to get the High Sheriff to come along but had always been unsuccessful before she met Janey at Grove House when the Duke of Gloucester visited.

Jean said: "I thought High Sheriff was just a title but she is the head of all judges and is chosen by the Queen. She was very down to earth.
