A popular food shop is set to be sold to another retailer if a wholesale commercial sell-off is approved.
The Co-operative Food store, in New Greens, High Oaks, St Albans, which is one of several Co-ops in the district, could potentially be sold to the convenience retailer, Martin McColl.
The New Greens shop is among nearly 300 Co-op stores expected to be sold to McColl’s in November for £117 million, subject to approval.
Staff will be transferred to the new store if the sale goes ahead.
A spokesperson for the Co-op confirmed that the New Greens store was among those due to be sold to McColl’s. He stressed: ““The decision to sell the store is in no way a reflection on the hard work and commitment from the colleagues working at the store.”
