There’s a new voice kickstarting the weekend on St Albans community station Radio Verulam.

Local man Kevee Lynch took over the Saturday morning show last weekend, after getting the radio bug when his children booked him an experience day as a Christmas present last year.

He explained: “I had cycled Route 66 in America for charity back in 2013, we raised about £38k and had the time of our lives. I came back and wrote a book about the whole experience which luckily for me Radio Verulam and BBC 3 Counties picked up on and invited us in for a chat. I loved it and the next thing I knew my children had booked an experience day at Radio Verulam for a Christmas present last year.

“I went along met some of the team and they taught me how to work the desk and edit. I popped into town, recorded a few interviews, came back and put a live show together. I caught the bug and quickly became a volunteer. Since then I’ve reported at a few of the major events in the town and undertaken the training to become an accredited presenter.”

Wake up With Kevee starts at 7am every Saturday, and features upbeat music ranging from Northern soul and punk, to ska and house. Radio Verulam broadcasts on 92.6 FM or online at Radioverulam.com. They also have a listen again service so if you don’t want to get up at 7am to listen to Kevee you don’t have to.
