MYSTERY surrounds the death of an elderly cyclist who was found with serious injuries after coming off his bike on Saturday morning.
The accident happened at around 11am in Hollybush Lane, Flamstead, when the 77-year-old man from Markyate was pedalling north towards the A5.
He was discovered seriously injured and taken to Luton and Dunstable Hospital but died later the same day.
Police are appealing for witnesses and information about the accident which they believe did not involve any other vehicles but resulted in the cyclist suffering the injuries which led to his death.
Pc Tom Fitzpatrick, who is investigating, said: "This is a tragic incident and I would like to extend my sympathies to the family."
