It is not unusual to see a pair of trainers slung over a telephone wire, but passers-by were recently left bemused in St Albans when they spotted a scooter slung high overhead.

BT was called to Gurney Court Road on Thursday, September 15 to remove the object, which was hanging precariously by its handles over the carriageway.

A local man joked: “Only in posh St Albans can someone throw away a scooter, but how did they get it up there on the telephone wire?”

He said that BT was alerted to the dangling scooter as it was at risk of falling on to a pedestrian or vehicle.

However a spokesman for the communications firm said it had been removed by the time engineers arrived.
