At around 9.30pm yesterday St Albans firefighters received reports of a garage on fire in Allen Close.

Three fire engines from St Albans, Welwyn Garden City and Harpenden attended and used hose reels to put the fire out.

The garage was filled with large building materials including roof materials and door frames.

A spokesman for the St Albans fire service said: “We are not clear how the fire started so it is being treated as suspicious and is being investigated today.

“We were on the scene for a couple of hours.”
