A SINGLE mother of three is desperate to get her month-old pile of rubbish collected from outside her London Colney home.

Emma Pitt, aged 31, lives in the High Street and her black wheelie bin rubbish has been ignored twice in a row. After the first occasion two weeks ago, St Albans District Council apologised for the mistake and promised Emma that her rubbish would be collected the next day.

But Ms Pitt's rubbish has now been sitting in her front garden for two weeks and was once again ignored during the collection yesterday (Wednesday).

Said Ms Pitt: "My rubbish should have been long gone but the council can't seem to get their act together. They even suggested at one point that I should move my bin from my front garden to the pavement in order to ensure collection."

But there are several steps to Ms Pitt's garden which is on a different level to the pavement and she asked: "How is a 5'2" woman with a slipped disc supposed to do that?"

She added: "To make matters worse, when I asked my refuse collector this Wednesday morning why he was ignoring my rubbish again, he told me in very disgusting language that it was because I had left extra black bin bags next to my full-to-the-brim wheelie bin."

The district council has already advised local residents that due to the adverse weather conditions and consequent lack of collections across the district last week, it would collect all excess refuse this week.

A spokesperson from the council said that they didn't know why Ms Pitt's rubbish was apparently ignored and added: "We have been in touch with the refuse department and have arranged for Ms Pitt's rubbish to be collected at some point today (Thursday). We apologise to Ms Pitt for any inconvenience caused.
