RECOVERY of the vehicles involved in a fatal accident between Junctions 6 and 7 of the A1M motorway means that the northbound carriageway will remain shut until early evening tonight (Monday).
A lorry driver from Lincolnshire died in the accident which occurred at 3.30am on the northbound carriageway between Welwyn and Stevenage.
Recovery of the vehicles involved in the crash between two lorries and a crane is expected to be completed by 3pm and once that has occurred the motorway will have to be made safe.
As a result the carriageway is unlikely to open for several more hours resulting in continuing problems through the evening rush hour.
Police are advising motorists to leave extra time for their journey and take alternative routes or follow the diversion via Knebworth which is in place.
