A MOTORCYCLIST died hours after a serious car accident this morning (Wednesday).

The 28-year-old man from St Albans died in hospital following the two-vehicle collision in Sandridge Road, near to the junction with Spencer Gate, at around 8.30am.

His black Yamaha motorbike was in a collision with a green Nissan saloon car and police are now appealing for witnesses.

The road was closed between the Archers Fields and Sandpit Lane junctions until around midday while the vehicles were cleared and investigations took place.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said that the man sustained neck, back and chest injuries in the crash and was taken to the QEII hospital in WGC where a trauma team was waiting to treat him.
