COUNCIL tax payers face more misery with an inflation-busting increase in the portion going to pay for Herts Police.
Two weeks after Herts County Council announced an increase of 3.5 per cent in the year from this April, the Police Authority have agreed a rise of 4.5 per cent, well above the inflation rate which is expected to be just two per cent by then.
The total spend in the coming year will be �184.9 million, and increase of �6.7 million on 2008/09, and for someone living in a Band D property, this will an nearly �143 of their total tax.
Earlier this month, St Albans District Council announced that it was not increasing its portion of the council tax.
Last autumn it was revealed that the Herts Police Authority had about �3 million invested in the failed Icelandic banks.
