Detectives investigating the death of a man in St Albans city centre following a suspected stabbing yesterday (Saturday) have made two further arrests – bringing the total to 11.

Herts Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the incident, which occurred at about 3.20am in London Road.

The man, whose name has not yet been officially released, was injured during an ‘altercation’ and he was taken to Watford General Hospital, where he died a short time later.

A post mortem is taking place later today.

Although the police initially said the dead man’s age was 19, in a further statement this afternoon officers said they now believe that he is 20 years old.

Yesterday afternoon, a man aged 19 was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken into police custody.

Then today (Sunday), a 26-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of murder.

Nine other people who were arrested yesterday on suspicion of murder, ranging in age from 16 to 27, currently remain in police custody.

London Road which was closed for a period yesterday is open again, however officers remain in the area as part of the investigation.

Detective Inspector Justine Jenkins, from the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit, said: “This incident occurred at a busy time in the city centre and there are a large number of witnesses who are being spoken to as part of the investigation.

“I would urge anyone who knows anything about the incident and has not yet spoken to police to do so immediately by calling the non-emergency number 101.”
