ELDERLY people relying on Meals on Wheels will be tucking into their hot food today (Tuesday) as services resumed after being suspended in many areas of the St Albans district yesterday (Monday).

The heavy snow left the Age Concern volunteers unable to reach the Jubilee Centre in Catherine Street, St Albans, to collect the meals and deliver them.

Elderly and vulnerable people in St Albans and Bricket Wood went without, but the London Colney Meals on Wheels service battled the extreme weather conditions to provide hot meals to the 14 elderly they serve

Ian Woods, a trustee of Age Concern which provides meals to more than 100 elderly people in St Albans each day, confirmed services have resumed.

But some of the volunteers are still unable to drive so the district council are helping out and providing vehicles for the service.
