A boyband favourite will be hero of the day as he joins runners at a 5k charity fun run.

Harry Judd, one sixth of supergroup McBusted, will be grabbing his trainers for Keech Hospice Care’s Superhero 5k fundraising event at Rothamsted Park in Harpenden this Sunday, May 17.

Drummer Harry, who is married to Harpenden girl Izzy Johnston and recently opened a new extension to the Luton-based charity, said: “The charity got in touch with me and asked me to retweet their tweets about the race.

“I said sure but when I looked at it I thought, it’s a 5k fun run, it’s on a weekend, it might actually be quite fun to do and it’s definitely a worthy cause.

“I just thought, to be honest is one tweet from me really going to generate the 50 applicants they needed, but if I said I was going to do it then people might join in with me.”

Harry has been a keen supporter of the hospice since the son of his wife’s friends was diagnosed with cancer and started being treated there.

He said: “The important thing about this race is that people can walk it or run – it’s about the taking part. The more the merrier.”

As for which superhero he will be transforming himself into, Harry said: “I’ve asked my best friend if he would come and run with me and because he’s quite tall I thought we would make quite a good Batman and Robin but we could always turn that on its head and I could just be a very tall Robin…

“I was just walking to my car now and the lid had blown off a bin as it’s quite windy today and I was using it as a shield and pretending to be Captain America so I could go as that!”

Registration is £10 for adults and £5 for children aged 16 or under and all participants are asked to raise additional sponsorship.

Everyone who finishes the race will receive a superhero medal and goody bag.
