Celebrity judges are gearing up for Harpenden’s forthcoming Battle of the Bands.

McBusted drummer Harry Judd and vocalist Ed MacFarlane and guitarist Edd Gibson of St Albans band Friendly Fires are to judge young people competing in the event at Harpenden Public Halls on Saturday, April 5.

The fundraiser has been organised by Harpenden Lions in conjunction with Izzy and Harry Judd.

It will seek out the best up and coming local bands while raising money for the Eyes Alight Appeal which was set up in March 2010 by Izzy, who is from Harpenden, and her family.

Eyes Alight was inspired by Izzy’s brother Rupert who tragically suffered a serious brain injury in 1997 as a result of a car accident, and the appeal supports those cared for by the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust.

Harry said: “I’m really looking forward to this event and delighted to be supporting a cause that is so close to my heart.”

Edd Gibson added: “Ed and I both grew up in Hertfordshire. We met at St Albans School when we were 13 and, shortly after this, I joined a band he had with Jack. Furiously rehearsing for months and months in Ed’s parent’s garage, we played any show we could get. Friends’ birthday parties, school concerts, the Horn Reborn pub, and The Pioneer Club, no-one was safe. Fast forward a few years and we have now released two albums and headlined shows and festivals around the world. We are looking forward to hearing what new talent is emerging and offering any help and advice we can. It is especially an honour being involved with Eyes Alight, a charity close to our hearts having met Rupert through recording and performing with his brother Magnus. It should prove to be a special and memorable event we are proud to be a part of.”

The contest starts at 7pm, with the doors open and food and drink available from 6.15pm.

Tickets cost £12 for adults, and £10 for under-18s and are available from the Musicale shop in Sun Lane on 01582 713333.
