The Mayor of St Albans visited a Chiswell Green tennis club to help launch its annual open day.

Mayor Cllr Frances Leonard opened the ‘Noisy Racket’ festival at Greenwood Park Lawn Tennis Club in Tippendell Lane on Saturday, May 13.

More than 200 visitors gathered at the club to celebrate the recently refurbished club rooms overlooking the courts and to take part in sports activities. Head tennis coach Sam Pink provided cardio taster sessions and free coaching for more than 30 volunteers, while the rest of the coaching team led demonstrations for children to develop new tennis skills.

Greenwood Park holds social tennis sessions on Thursdays at 7pm and on Sundays at 10am, as well as holding internal club tournaments and taking part in Herts County League matches.

Cllr Leonard said: “I am delighted to see everyone working together to achieve such great opportunities for all ages in the community.”
