A upmarket London charity ball raised a huge £100,000 for a local toddler with a rare cancer
Celebrities, ballroom dancers, and musicians all entertained guests at Siobhan Mather’s charity Spring Ball in Mayfair - at the Sheraton Grand hotel.
At just two years old, Siobhan was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a rare tumour which mostly affects young children. Last week the Mather family received the devastating news that the cancer has once again returned.
Various NHS treatments have been unsuccessful for Siobhan, who is now looking further afield for help. Siobhan needs to fly to the Memorial Sloane Kettering Centre in New York for treatment, but needs £220,000 to do so.
The event was supported by the Bradley Lowrey Foundation, a charity which helps campaigners raise funds for treatments not available on the NHS.
It was hosted by presenter Gaby Roslin, with entertainment by actor and producer Johnny Partridge, singer Emma Lindars, and ballroom dancers Korey Andrews and Maddie Ingoldsby.
Siobhan’s sister Ciara performed alongside the Irish Dance Academy. Bands OMYO and Mixed Feelings provided music for the event.
Stacey Turner is a children’s author who has supported Siobhan’s cause. She said: “This stunning ballroom was filled with people from all over with one thing in mind, Siobhan’s fight and a mutual desire to help in any way possible.
“The biggest message of all is that the fight must go on and with Siobhan’s care plan now changing, getting her to America for a year for this life saving essential vaccine, is in sight, just delayed.
“One scan alone costs £10,000 and for the family to sustain a year of travel, accommodation and treatment - this charity ball organised by Angela Togher, Emma Tsangarides and others was essential to aid with Siobhan’s recovery.”
She thanked everyone who made the evening possible, as well as the organisers of a twice-yearly charity fashion show which picked Siobhan as one of its beneficiaries, beautician Catherine Batour and Chloe James Lifestyle fashion boutique.
