A young cancer sufferer was taken on the trip of a lifetime thanks to St Albans Round Table.

Zofeya Dorgu, six, and her family who live near Markyate, were treated to a day at Drayton Manor in Staffordshire as part of The Biggest Wish, a coming together of families from all over the UK with children who suffer from life-threatening illness.

Round Tablers from around the country sponsored a child from their area to take part in the special day and Zofeya was introduced to the St Albans Round Table by Keech Hospice after being diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour in July 2013.

Following major brain surgery, she underwent radiotherapy and more than a year of chemotherapy and is currently in remission.

With her ‘Wishmaker’ - St Albans Round Table chairman Christoph Lutz - Zofeya and her family enjoyed bumper cars, train rides and cable cars during a five-star day at Drayton Park which also included a visit to Thomas World, the zoo and playground.

They also met former Olympic silver medallist swimmer Sharron Davies, who supported the event, and had their photo taken with her.

In addition, the Round Table sponsored a stay for the family in the Drayton Manor Hotel so they could make a weekend out of their visit.

Christoph said: “It was a great honour and privilege to spend the day with the Dorgu family. It was amazing to see Zofeya’s smile and enjoyment during the day and to see how much it meant to the family to spend this carefree day together.”

Zofeya’s mum Noemi added: “We had an amazing day and seeing the kids smile and have fun is very special for us after the one and a half years we’ve been through. It was so lovely to be invited to this event and all of us will treasure today’s memories for a long time.”
