BOMB disposal experts were called to Markyate this afternoon after what was believed to be an unexploded shell was found in the village.
It was discovered at the rear of Richmond House in Hicks Road and a 200 metre cordon was set up with homes and businesses evacuated.
The bomb scare was later found to be a false alarm as the shell was empty.
During the incident the nearby Travel Inn was being used as an evacuation centre and the A5 through Markyate was closed. This was not connected to the death of a police officer at the Broomhills Shooting Club on Saturday.
