AMBULANCE crews went to the aid of a man who got his hand stuck in a fence.

The incident happened just before midday on Thursday at St Albans City Station.

The man, believed to be aged 33, is thought to have been climbing over the fence when he got his hand stuck.

Paramedics from St Albans also attended and the air ambulance was dispatched but cancelled en route to the incident.

An ambulance service spokesperson said: "It is believed a man was jumping or climbing over a fence when he became trapped by his hand. Paramedics administered a pain-relieving drug which helped considerably, and following stabilisation at the scene, he was taken to the QEII Hospital in Welwyn Garden City by land ambulance."

The man sustained significant injuries to two of his fingers and was later transferred to the Lister Hospital in Stevenage.
