A MAN climbed into the loft of a property and smashed his way onto the roof after police tried to arrest him on suspicion of arson yesterday (Sunday).

A fire broke out in an address in London Colney High Street at around 5.30pm in which minor damage was caused to the property.

At around 8.30pm that night police located a man in nearby Five Acres who they wanted to speak to in connection with the fire.

But he refused to cooperate and fled into the loft space before smashing through the roof of the property.

He stood on the roof and refused to come down until around 10pm when he was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.
