A MAN was taken to hospital after being assaulted in an alleyway in Harpenden last night (Monday).

The attack happened just before midnight as the local 20-year-old was walking along the narrow passage in Coldharbour Lane.

He sustained neck injuries and is still being treated in hospital where he is said to be in a stable condition.

Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with the assault - a 19-year-old from Harpenden and a 16-year-old from St Albans - and they remain in police custody.

The alleyway was cordoned off by police following the incident and will remain closed while investigations take place.
