A man in his 60s has been taken to Luton & Dunstable University Hospital in a state of semi-consciousness after he fell down the stairs in his house in Wheathampstead.
An air ambulance was called to offer critical care to the man, who is thought to be in a “serious but stable” condition in hospital.
The helicopter landed on the fields at Beech Hyde Primary and Nursery School - the school later text parents to reassure them that pupils were okay.
Crews were called to the address on Caesars Road at around 12.32pm. The man was discovered after a visiting friend found him at the bottom of the stairs. It is not known how long ago he had fallen.
