A MAN has appeared in court following an alleged burglary in St Albans last Wednesday.

Shoppers saw a police helicopter circling the busy city centre during market day on August 9 after two men were seen running from Carphone Warehouse in St Peter’s Street after midday.

A spokesman for Herts Police said that officers arrested two men on suspicion of theft in the Hatfield Road area, after being alerted to the incident at 12.50pm.

Managing director of Kashu, Gels Picciuto, saw the arrest outside his restaurant on Hatfield Road. He explained: “To be honest, I had no idea what was going on. One minute I was concentrating on my work, and then we had bobbies tackling by the restaurant.”

Iulian Ispilante, aged 29, of Diamond Road, Slough, was charged with two counts of theft from a shop and one of assaulting a police officer. He appeared before St Albans Magistrates Court last Friday, August 10.
