A MAN will appear in court charged with assault and a public order offence after police were called to an incident at a St Albans pub last weekend.

Police received a report of an assault and a man refusing to leave The Verulam Arms on Lower Dagnall Street at 10.35pm on Saturday.

Officers detained Jamal Rattab, of The Berries, Sandridge, at the nearby Farriers Arms and later arrested him after he became aggressive.

It has been alleged the 33-year-old assaulted a police officer while being taken to custody.

He has been released on bail and will appear at Hatfield Remand Court on June 6.
