A MAN suffered facial injuries following an assault in St Albans on New Year’s Day.

The incident happened sometime during the early hours of the morning, near to the Rats Castle Pub on Hatfield Road.

The victim, a 19 year old man from Hemel Hempstead, approached a group of people and asked for directions.

One of the group is then said to have punched the victim before dragging him to the floor and kicking him.

The group consisted of between eight and 12 males and females.

The main suspect is described as a white man, in his late teens to early 20s, of around 5ft 10in tall and medium build. He had short dark hair and was wearing a blue jacket.
