RESTRUCTURING and repair work will mean that part of a major St Albans city-centre road is closed from Monday.

The work in Victoria Street, which will take about a week, was suspended to allow EDF to lay power cables and Virgin Media to lay shallow ducts.

Once the two companies have finished Herts Highways will be planing off and reconstructing the road surface, adjusting damaged manhole covers and resurfacing the carriageway.

Some of the work will be carried out between 7am and 7pm with the remainder carried out between 7pm and 7am over one night.

But it will mean the closure of the section between Marlborough and Upper Marlborough Road and the junction of Victoria Street with St Peter's Street/Chequer Street.

Access will be allowed for residents, businesses and users of the Maltings and St Albans council car parks but no traffic will be able to cross the Marlborough Road junction unless it is going from north to south.

Local bus services will be affected and details of any changes will be advertised on bus stops and information bulletins or the website www.intalink.org.uk
