Drivers faced severe delays on the M1 this afternoon, with traffic building up back to the M25, following a crash in which a person had to cut from a vehicle.

Emergency services were called to the scene of a crash on the M1 earlier this afternoon between Junction 8 for Hemel Hempstead and 9 for Redbourn.

Shortly after 4pm, Highways England tweeted: “The #M1 is now OPEN northbound between J8 and J9. 1 lane remains closed for vehicle recovery. Severe delays remain back to #M25, plan ahead.”

A about 3.30pm, Beds, Cambs and Herts Road Policing unit also tweeted: “Delays M1 northbound junction 8 shut while casualty cut from vehicle by @HertsFRSControl assisting @EastEnglandAmb.”
