There was a lucky escape for a woman who left her kitchen in a multi-storey building moments before her home was struck by a pick-up truck last night (Sunday).
A spokeswoman for Herts Police said that at about 10.30pm a black Nissan Navara crashed in to the kitchen wall of a flat in Holyrood Crescent in St Albans.
While a woman in the flat escaped injury, she had to be evacuated to temporary accommodation as a result.
Dan Bassil, crew commander at St Albans Fire Station, said that when emergency services were called to the crash, it appeared that the vehicle had mounted the kerb and collided with the side of the block of flats.
He said the woman in the apartment was “lucky as she heard the car coming and had just left the kitchen.
“There was quite a bit of damage to the kitchen. She was very, very lucky.”
Firefighters made the site safe, ensuring that the power and electricity were turned off.
A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust said the driver of the pick-up truck was treated for minor injuries, but he did not need hospitalisation.
The vehicle had been recovered by 1am this morning.
