THE AWARD-WINNING film producer Lord David Puttnam visited a St Albans school last week to share his experiences with a young audience.
His visit was part of the Engaging Minds series of lectures for sixth formers who form a consortium made up of Beaumont, Sandringham and Verulam pupils. Lord Puttnam spent 30 years as an independent film producer working on iconic films such as Chariots of Fire, Memphis Belle and The Killing Fields.
Since retiring from film production in 1998, much of his time has been focused on his work in education and the environment.
The Engaging Minds series is coordinated by Business Studies teacher, Dossy Brando. She said Lord Puttnam’s visit had been inspiring: “I was struck by his ability to connect with our young people so effortlessly and by how sincere and down to earth he was. His words were thoughtful and wise and the message he was trying to put across was truly heartfelt.”
Other speakers have included MP Anne Main and psychologist Richard Wiseman.
